Whole Foods Opens First Northern California Location of 'Whole Body'

The Campbell grocer attracted a large crowd to its grand opening. Will you shop there?

Tooxing Joe and Alice Chan arrived at 7:20 a.m. to be the first in line.

The two San Jose residents have been die-hard Whole Foods customers since before the local health food store came to Campbell. Customer service and knowledgeable staff are two key points that keep them coming back, the women said.

"We have been coming here way back when it was Bread of Life on Campbell Avenue," Joe says. "We frequented this location and the one in Los Gatos."

The two ladies were the first in a long line of eager customers that snaked its way down past the Starbucks at the Hamilton Plaza shopping center Wednesday Morning in anticipation of the grand opening ceremony for Whole Foods' first Northern California location of the Whole Body store.

The new store offers up eco-wear, yoga accessories, children's accessories as well as various products for health and wellness. Inside, a nail salon also offers up a chance to get pampered and be Zen.

Willow Glen residents Beau Smyth and grandson Will Seipke spent some time chasing bubbles while his wife waited in line.

"My wife is a pretty dedicated Whole Foods shopper," Smyth says.

The celebration took place at 9:45 a.m. in the former Fresh Choice location. The first 100 shoppers to wait in line for the opening went home with goodie bags. Campbell Mayor Mike Kotowski as well as Campbell Chamber of Commerce CEO Neil Collins were both on hand for the ribbon cutting.

"We are the number one small city in the West Valley," Kotowski said to the crowd. "We are so glad you picked Campbell."

Collins echoed Kotowski's sentiments when he addressed the crowd.

"We are glad to have you as part of the chamber and honored you chose Campbell to expand and test this new product," he said.
