The Pruneyard's Farmers' Market Opens

Campbell's newest market celebrated its grand opening April 5.

The at the opened its doors quietly to Campbell yesterday.

A single row of vendors filled the parking lot facing E. Campbell Avenue, in front of the Pruneyard Office Tower with vendors from all over the Valley and up the Santa Cruz mountains.

Farmers' market visitors Sharon Hines and her 3-year-old daughter Jada saw the market as they drove by and stopped to check it out.

"It's a little small but I live near here so it's a nice option to have," Hines says.

Yoshiko Berton and her two daughters Jessica, 9, and Jenna, 7, came out to the market after receiving a flyer on their doorstep.

"It's a good time," Berton says. "It's after school. Perfect for taking the kids after school."

For Kelly Bradford, owner and partner of Old House Farm out of Scotts Valley, the opening has brought her full circle.

"My family used to farm here when this was all orchards," Bradford says. "So it's nice coming back."

She found out about the market from the organizers, Jon and Johnna Borello.

"The Pruneyard is a great location for a market and we definitely wanted to do it," she says. "Plus, if we have energy afterwards we can go see a movie!"

For Campbell resident Olga Meydbray, the market makes sense. Her father A. Agah owns Baba Joon's Chocolate Chewies and is a vendor at the new market.

"The Campbell market on Sundays is so popular it's packed so I have to go early to get my shopping done and if I miss it, I have to wait a week to get my fresh veggies," Meydbray says. "I'm happy to have a second market on a different day, with different vendors. It's a much more peaceful experience."

Joanne Gutowski-Joplin, owner of decided to get in touch with her business' roots and became a vendor at the new market.

"I read about it in the and said, 'Oh that's perfect!'" Gutowski-Joplin says. "I am just down the street and I got my start at the farmers' market so why not?"

For the only flower vendor at the market, Lara Smith of Country Essence Flowers says she just hopes that residents support it and it becomes a really great market.

"I've been doing this for 35 years, going to markets with my mom since I was small," Smith says. "This is a great time and a good day so I hope I get to see it grow."
