Showcase Gets Interactive
The Bay Area Showcase hosts its Holiday Extravaganza and 'Harmony Idol.'
The holidays are here, and there's plenty of opportunity to get your photo taken with Santa Claus, shop 'til you drop and play in the snow.
You may also want to celebrate the season by going out and taking in some live performances, like the Bay Area Showcase's Holiday Extravaganza.
This show takes place only once every other year, because the group, the Bay Area Showcase, competes in international competitions the other year.
This year's show takes place Dec. 12 at the Campbell Heritage Theatre. Campbell Patch asked the group's marketing coordinator a little bit about this year's performance as a sneak peek, and this is what she said.
Campbell Patch: Tell us a little bit about what the Holiday Extravaganza is.
Kevran Day: The Holiday Extravaganza is our largest performance. We are a chapter of the Sweet Adelines International, and 100 women from our group will be up on stage performing. We will also have special guests HookSlide, a male quartet that specializes in beat boxing along with their harmonizing. They are phenomenal!
Patch: What's new to this performance this year?
Day: This year, we are having our "Harmony Idol" contest. We had a contest for students ranging from 14 to 25 years old, in groups of two to eight. There were nine groups that auditioned for the contest and we picked the top three to perform at the Extravaganza. From these three, the audience will get to vote for the winner.
Patch: Where are these students from?
Day: They are from all over. We have one student that's a middle schooler, from Buchser Middle School in Santa Clara, some from Santa Clara High School, some from Stanford University. We have one student from Leigh High School, some from Westmont High School and a couple from Monta Vista High School. It really serves as a great showcase of young talent and an example from all the area high schools.
The Holiday Extravaganza takes place Dec. 12 at 4 p.m. at the Campbell Heritage Theatre.
Tickets can be purchased at the Campbell Heritage Theatre Box Office, 408-866-2700, or online at singharmony.org. Ticket prices are $15 for children, $25 general admission and $35 for VIP.
