Evan Low Represents Campbell in Washington D.C.

Campbell City Councilman Evan Low, and 15 other young elected officials throughout the country are meeting with Barack Obama today.

It's Friday in Campbell and the weather is mild, the Summer Concert Series kicked off last night and Father's Day is this weekend.

And while all of this is going on here, Campbell Councilman Evan Low is on his way via plane to sit down with President Barack Obama and members of his administration to discuss the state of things at the state and local levels.

Low is part of the People For the American Way Foundation’s Young Elected Officials Network, a network of 16 officials in elected office between the ages of 18 and 35. They represent 4.8 percent of all elected officials in the country and were invited to the White House to discuss important issues facing states and localities. California is well represented in this network, with five officials, including Low, making that list.

“This is a unique opportunity to have many conversations with the administration about the direction of our country and to also highlight the importance of Campbell and the Silicon Valley region,” Evan said in a release.

The YEON was formed to provide support and training for more than 600 state, county and city elected officials from all 50 states.

“We are thrilled to be able to take the observations and concerns of so many young, progressive elected officials to President Obama and the Administration,” said Andrew Gillum, Executive Director of the Young Elected Officials Network in a release. “These young leaders are on the front lines of change, fighting for the values of fairness, equality and opportunity in their home communities.

"President Obama understands that national movements are built by individual citizens and their elected representatives working hard to bring about positive change in their own communities. We’re tremendously proud to be able to help the president get to know our communities and discuss the issues affecting states and localities across the country.”
