“The purpose of the event is to teach the lessons of the Holocaust, which we continue to struggle with as people are dying today in Sudan, and also to honor the survivors in Santa Clara County, who can provide direct oral history testimony that takes the lessons out of the history book and into our hearts,” says Jewish Federation of Silicon Valley Spokeswoman Diane Fisher.

The event's special guest is Sheila Abranches, according to the release the granddaughter of Aristides de Sousa Mendes, the Portuguese Diplomat who saved 30,000 lives by writing visas against the orders of his government.
