“It is with mixed emotion that I am letting you know that I have accepted a department head position with the County of Santa Clara and will be leaving my position with the City of Campbell at the end of February,” Brown said in a released statement. “This was not a decision I made easily. To the contrary, my fondness for the City, my admiration and appreciation of our hard-working and talented staff -- all of you -- and my excitement about some of the projects and other things we have started working on together, made the decision difficult.”

Brown leaves Campbell for a job at the Santa Clara County as the new Director of Agriculture and Environmental Management. She will stay in the Orchard City until end of February.

Brown’s first day on the job in Campbell was Jan. 9, 2012. The annual salary: $199,500. She replaced Dan Rich, who moved on to become the City Manager for the city of Mountain View.

Brown was appointed Acting City Administrator in January and also served as San Francisco's Deputy City Attorney from 1999 to 2006. She holds Bachelors degrees in Journalism and Political Science from the University of Kansas and a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.

Brown is also the first woman and the first member of the LGBT community to hold the city administrator position for San Francisco.

The average processing time for advertising, recruitment and selection for a city manager takes about six months.
